Fort Collins Stars Competitive Softball
The Fort Collins Stars Softball Club has a competitive softball program. This program is a highly competitive program which each player will experience competitive tournament not only in Colorado but other states.
GOAL
- To offer a program to individuals who would like to compete at a highly competitive level.
- To allow individual players, with the desire to play at a competitive level, manage their time between other sports and school activities. This is why we offer “B”, and “A” level of play.
- To provide a means for individuals to improve their skills at a higher level.
TEAMS
- Competitive teams will be offered in the 10U, 12U, 14U, 16U, and 18U age divisions.
- Teams are formed based on try out outcome.
- The 10U team will consist of players 9 and 10 years of age as of January 1st.
- The 12U team will consist of players 11 and 12 years of age as of January 1st.
- The 14U team will consist of players 13 and 14 years of age as of January 1st.
- The 16U team will consist of players 15 and 16 years of age as of January 1st.
- The 18U team will consist of players 17 and 18 years of age as of January 1st.
- Each team will consist of a minimum of 11 players and a maximum of 15 players.
- Try outs for the competitive teams are held in early August.
COACHES
- Each team will consist of a Head Coach and 1 or 2 assistant(s).
- Each coach and their assistant will be required to complete a coach’s application and an interview process with the Board of Directors.
- A back ground check will be ran on each coach and their assistant(s).
SCHEDULE
- Coaches will be able to receive the team’s equipment at the end of August.
- Practice will be allowed to commence on or after January 1st and after the teams have been formed. Some teams may practice in September and October if they plan on playing in an early tournament in September or October. Practices in November or December will not be mandatory unless approved by the Board of Directors.
- Player can attend clinics at anytime before or during the season.
- The coach will submit a list of possible tournaments along with a budget to the Board of Directors for approval. The number of tournament is usually based on the level of the competitive team. “A” teams will play in 12-17 tournaments. “B” teams will play in 10-15 tournaments. “C” teams will play in 7-12 tournaments.
- The coaches will select tournaments within the ASA, USSSA, and Triple Crown affiliations. Some of these tournaments could be out of state.
- Each team has the possibility of playing in 50-125 games for the season.
- The season will end in mid to late July.
UNIFORMS
- Each player will be required to purchase the required team uniform which will be selected by the Head Coach.
- The uniform usually consists of two or three pairs of softball pants, two or three jerseys, and socks. The cost for a complete uniform set is between $200.00 $300.00 per player. This fee is not in the coach’s budget and will need to be paid on an individual basis when ordering the uniform.
EQUIPMENT
- Softball Cleats will NOT be required but will be strongly recommended.
- Each girl will be required to provide her own glove for every practice and game. The Fort Collins Stars have a few used gloves that are offered to all players.
- Water bottles will also need to be provided by each player.
The Fort Collins Stars will provide:
- Softballs
- Softball Bats
- Catchers equipment
FEES
- Each player will be required to pay the club fee. (approximately $225.00)
- Each player will be required to purchase the uniform pieces as mentioned above. (approximately $200.00-$300.00)
- Each player will be required to pay for a portion of the tournament fees, which will be based on the tournament fees, divided by the total number of players on the team. (based on the coach’s budget)
- Each player will be required to pay for a portion of the registration fees for each affiliation which they participate in. These fees are based on the registration fees divided by the total number of players on the team. (approximately $7.00)
- Each player will be required to pay for a portion of the practice field fees. These fees are based on the practice field costs times the number of practices divided by the total number of players on the team.
- The total amount of fees for each individual will be maintained around $700.00 $1,000.00 for a “C” team, $900.00 -$1,200.00 for a “B” team, and $1,100.00 $1,600.00 for an “A” team. This is only a guide and based on the coach’s budget these fees could be more.
- Scholarships are available for each qualifying player and must be received prior to February 15th. Scholarship forms are found at WWW.fcstars.org
