STARS Families -

As a club, we ask each coach to have their team do at least one community service project.  Through the holidays, several teams and individuals participated in community service projects which benefited the Larimer County Food Bank, Catholic Charities Mission and/or the Open Door Mission.

As a Club, we have decided to do our own form of a food drive - a club-wide community service project.  You will be able to bring in food items through the end of March.  Next week you will see boxes at the Stars facility on North College and at Triple Crown Sports where players can bring in canned food and other items before their practice begins.  All items will be distributed to the above agencies on a weekly basis.

Saturday, August 15th (for call backs, people on vacation on 8/9, and rain make up date for 8/9) - New Spring Canyon Park (west end of Horsetooth Road, west of Taft Hill Road)

16's and 14's   9:00 - 11:00

12's and 10's  11:00 - 1:00

The tournament ended our season for our 10U Rec Bulldogs but not before claiming Championship for the 2009 season. The Bulldogs came out strong on Friday, July 10 winning their first game; coming back to play on Saturday in the winners bracket.

Saturday would start a long day for our young ladies.  Our first game was played at 9:00 where we were handed our first loss by Mark Allen's good little team, The Stingrays.

The 2nd game we played at 12:00, which would be our only break for the day.  We won our 2nd game and went back to back from there, playing and winning our next 2 games.  This would put us in the winners bracket again, playing for 2nd Place with Allen's Stingrays who, by the way, had not lost a game.  To win championship, our team would have to beat the Stingray's twice.  The first game was a nail biter, but the Bulldogs pulled it out with an awesome hit by Hana Mawlawi who scored two runs putting us into our second game with the Stingray;s for championships.  This win took our girls into their 6th game (5 of which were back to back).  Tired, headaches, sore muscles and sore feet our girls pulled another win; taking Championships!  As one parent put it, "Against All Odds" they did it.

Our team worked together as a whole, each contributing defensively and offensively.  However, there are a few young ladies that made some awesome plays that were just spectacular to watch.  Kala Mawlawi - 2nd base who stopped an extremely hard hit ball, down on one knee, stayed in front of it and made the out at second.  Hana Mawlawi  - with her awesome hit that flew to Mars and put us into the Championship game.  Hana also had some awesome plays and catches at first base helping our team earn their 1st place medals.  Mikayla Jimenez - our primary pitcher, for her awesome pitching that all other teams struggled to hit.  Keanna Cruz and Angelita Robertson - for stepping up as relief pitchers with strikeouts of their own.

Our catchers Rebecca and Emma Kirby - who wore the hot gear all tournament playing their hearts out and not letting much get by them, diving and catching balls attributing to the teams outs.  Amanda Henchenski - playing a strong shortstop and coming up with a double play of her own.  Kylie Schwartz  - who played a tight right field and throwing a runner out at first base.  Again, there were so many plays, but these were notable plays; plays that just made your heart jump and your feet leave the ground in cheers.

AWESOME SEASON, BULLDOGS!
